It has come to SEDA Malaysia’s attention that certain unauthorised individuals or companies have been soliciting payment and issuing fake Net Energy Metering (NEM) certificate to unsuspected victims.
To prevent the public from falling into the NEM scams, SEDA has the following tips for you.
CHECK THE AUTHENTICITY OF YOUR NEM CERTIFICATE
Please refer to https://services.seda.gov.my/nem/cert/checker to verify the authentication of your NEM certificate
REGISTERED PV SERVICE PROVIDER (RPVSP)
Only engage with PV service providers or PV investor recognised by SEDA Malaysia. Check out SEDA Malaysia’s registered PV service provider directory at www.seda.gov.my. Cross check with the PV service provider that the sales person is legitimate.
QUOTATIONS COMPARISON
Instead of just basing on lowest price quotation, consider the quality of the components used, warranty period, duration of the system installation, expected energy generation and monthly payment you can receive.
BEWARE OF MISLEADING INFORMATION
Overpromise of high returns from PV systems, guarantee to secure solar PV quota from SEDA, and PV system that does not require any maintenance at all.
CAREFUL ABOUT CONTRACT AND PAYMENT
Always ask for the customer’s draft contract; the contract should only be signed with a registered service provider.
MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THE INSTALLATION WORK
Be mindful on the project time line and monitor the progress of the installation works. A maximum of 12 months is given from the date of quota approval for the NEM Consumer to complete the installation works.
MAKE FINAL PAYMENT INSPECTION
Make sure that you are satisfied with the completed work before you make the final payment.
KEEP ALL INSTALLATION PAPERWORK
This includes the contract, any written changes, photos, bills and invoices, receipts of payments and all correspondence with the registered PV service provider.
DID YOU KNOW?
Fraudulent PV service providers prey on those who are unfamiliar with investing in solar PV system. When in doubt, please visit SEDA Malaysia’s website and check out our NEM microsite https://www.seda.gov.my/reportal/nem/ to know more about NEM scheme.
