YBrs. Ir. Abdul Rahim Ibrahim was appointed as an Authority Member for the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia on December 1, 2023.
He served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Energy Commission, providing strategic leadership in operationalizing the commission’s objectives. His responsibilities included managing overall operations to maximize industry performance and achieve customer service excellence.
He began his career as a Technical Assistant in the Electrical Division of the Public Works Department (JKR Elektrik) in Penang upon graduating with a Diploma of Electrical (Power) from UTM in 1983. His duties included designing of electrical systems for government buildings, supervising projects, and conducting maintenance works. In 1991, upon the privatization of Lembaga Letrik Negara (LLN) (now Tenaga Nasional Berhad -TNB), YBrs. Ir. Abdul Rahim was assigned to a new established regulatory department, the Department of Electricity and Gas Supply (JBE&G) at Northern Region in Butterworth. His responsibilities included investigating of electrical accidents, registering electrical installations, conducting competency examinations, and addressing disputes related to electricity supply to consumers.
In 1998, he was appointed as Assistant Director of JBE&G in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and later, in 2004 became the Regional Director of the Energy Commission in Kuantan, Pahang. In 2010, he assumed the position of Director of the Electrical Safety Regulation Department, overseeing electrical safety regulations. Then, as the Director of Industry Development, he played a vital role in developing The National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) and the renewable energy programmes such as Net Energy Metering (NEM), Self-consumption (SELCO), Large Scale Solar Power Plant (LSS), and Corporate Green Power Plant (CGPP) to meet the targeted 31% installed capacity by 2025.
YBrs. Ir. Abdul Rahim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from University Technology Mara, a Master’s Degree in Management from Open University of Malaysia, and is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia. He is a member of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia and a recognized Competent Electrical Engineer by the Energy Commission. Additionally, he was awarded the National Standards Awards (Individual) in 2020 and received the ASEAN Excellence in Energy Management Award (Individual) in 2019.
