PUTRAJAYA, March 27 ( Bernama ) — The countdown has begun. In another 2 weeks Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia will be having its 4th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2018, this time jointly organized with the Ministry of Utilities, Sarawak. The Summit will be held on 10th & 11th April 2018 in Pullman Hotel, Kuching and is co-hosted by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and the Sarawak State Government. The theme of the Summit is “Sustainable Energy: the Future is Here”. The Chief Minister of Sarawak, YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Abang Haji Openg is expected to officiate the Summit and host a Gala Dinner in conjunction with the event.
According to the Organizing Chair of the Summit and Chief Executive Officer of SEDA Malaysia, Ms. Catherine Ridu, the Summit will have three plenary and 10 deep dive workshop (DDWs) and in total around 80 international and local thought leaders have been invited as speakers and chairs. Key topics discussed at plenary sessions include Envisioning the Future of Electricity Market at global level, initiatives by both national and state to transform the current electricity market, and reinventing the business model for power utilities in the future electricity market. In line with the Sarawak State Government’s strategic vision on digitization of the electricity system and the global trend in sustainable energy, this Summit introduces two new topics under the DDWs: (i) The Future Role of Blockchain in the Energy Market and (ii) The Emergence of Energy Storage Systems.
Other topics under the DDWs will include review of various renewable energy industry and market developments such as solar photovoltaic, bioenergy, hydropower, remote electrification, including a dedicated session on energy efficiency in which the highlight will be sharing by Ir. Akmal Rahimi Abu Samah, Chief Operating Officer of SEDA Malaysia on the development of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill. Aligning with the region’s growing solar PV market, there will also be sessions to discuss the impact of integrating large scale distributed solar PV systems to the grid, best practices on auctioning of large scale renewable energy projects and designing effective sustainable energy policies. The experts contributing to the Summit are from renowned organizations such as The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme of the International Energy Agency (IEA PVPS), ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), World Bank, Smart Electric Power Alliance (SEPA), International Hydropower Association (IHA), and Ambassadors from the USA, Netherlands, Sweden, Iran and the EU Head of Delegation to Malaysia.
A business matching session is available to promote commercial activities; the stakeholders in the business matching will be from investors, technology providers, financial institutions and related government agencies. SEDA Malaysia anticipates around 700 attendees at the summit from more than 25 countries.
